People being aware of the harmful effects of incandescent lamps are now switching over to florescent lamps. Since these are capable of illuminating a large amount of bright light and consumes less energy, these are termed as energy efficient light.

Florescent lighting is basically a type of electrical lamp that works through the use of mercury and neon. And if you are considering these lights for your home, here are some major disadvantages of this type of lighting.

Repeated switching of the light degrades the performance of the light and thus reduce their life. The most common phenomenon that shortens the life of the light is decaying of electron emitting surface of the cathode. This causes permanent failure of the light.

Emission of ultraviolet rays is the fatal and mortal effect of florescent lights. A research unfold this truth about these lights and the death causing effects of them. Ultraviolet rays can cause many acute and chronic disorders. Moreover, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn and skin cancer as well. These can even deteriorate the paintings and fabric.

As above stated, florescent tubes consists of mercury which is the most toxic chemical when inhaled. Mercury vapors profane the environment when a tube light ruptures. Therefore, one should use a towel to draw the broken particles of the tube. Also, dispose both the towel and the broken parts of the tube properly.

Lifetime disorders like autism, vertigo or epilepsy are usually caused due to flickering of light. Light flickering mainly occurs due to magnetic ballasts which unfortunately is the major constituent of the florescent tubes. These are nowadays being replaced by electronic ballasts.

Florescent lamps are less cost effective since these consists of a large number of components for example, ballast, starter and choke. This in turn makes florescent tube light an expensive source of home lighting. Moreover, florescent lamps are a bit noisy as they produce audible buzzing noise as they grow old or if there is some imperfection in the ballast.

Armed with all this information about compact florescent lights, you would just change the opinion regarding these lights and will gradually switch over to light and compact light emitting diodes to lighten up your house. These are both environmental and body friendly. Government is also taking certain steps like creating disposal grounds for florescent lights to control the ill effects of these lights.

Good or bad lighting can just about transform the complete look and feel of your home. While you may have spent a fortune on buying the most contemporary living room furniture, all your money spent can be less than adequately reflected if the lighting is not correct. Good lighting focuses on being functional and elegant at the same time.

For a bedroom, you must have lights that help you do your work comfortably and should also give a good look as it is the place where you relax and sleep. You can go for florescent lights as they produce white light and are low on power thus saving electricity. CFL is a good option and you can get a variety of designs in it.

Many people are into a habit of reading before going to sleep. For this, you can have a night lamp on the side table. For the dressing table, you should have focused light placed just above it so that the light produced is shadow free and you can comfortably dress up your self.

Living room- The first thing to see is the size of your living room. Is it large sized and has vast open spaces, or does it have just about adequate space for few people? In the former case, you should best go for soft lighting to enhance the areas you want to accentuate.

In case your living room area is not that huge, then you should always go for bright lights. A room which is brightly lit appears to be larger. Up lights i.e. lights facing the ceiling are good to use in these rooms as they make the room look higher and more spacious.

If you are fond of artworks or paintings etc, place it where it draws the maximum attention and enhance it greatly by a focus light. Keep the rest of the lighting around these specific points or articles comparatively dim, so as not to take the attention away.

For kid’s room, you can get bright colored lamps with fancy shades. Ensure that the switch is near the bed so that children can use it comfortably.

Adequate lighting is also very important for the hobby areas. The lighting arrangements here would be simple but they should be in accordance to the task that has to be performed like painting, carpentry etc. Also, the lighting choice should be such that it goes with your furniture and the overall decor theme of the room.

Scott Rodgers is a noted writer when it comes to extensive electricians work. He has ample experience all over the nation. His incredible knowledge has helped in generating business for a lot many Saint Petersburg Electricians and Algonquin Electricians .
